What Are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the teeth located at the very back of the molars. They are called “love teeth” in Korean because they typically emerge between the ages of 10 and 21, an age range associated with experiencing one’s first love. They are also referred to as the third molars because they are the third large molars to erupt.

Delaying the extraction of wisdom teeth can lead to complications.

Do Wisdom Teeth Need to be Extracted at a University Hospital?

Thanks to extensive experience and the use of cutting-edge dental CT imaging to ensure a safe and comfortable extraction, we offer a comfortable experience.

Wisdom teeth can be difficult to remove as they are often impacted, lying horizontally and embedded in the bone. Moreover, the extraction requires careful avoidance of the inferior alveolar nerve, a critical nerve that runs close to the wisdom teeth, making the procedure highly complex.

| POINT

Why Should Wisdom Teeth be Extracted?

01

Decay due to inaccessibility by a toothbrush

Food often gets trapped between the wisdom tooth and its neighboring molar, leading to decay in the surrounding teeth and causing bad breath.

02

Inflammation around the wisdom tooth, leading to swollen gums and cheeks

Severe inflammation can cause cysts, tumors, osteomyelitis, and other problems.

03

Bone around the wisdom tooth is absorbed due to inflammation, affecting the alveolar bone

The inflammation can lead to the absorption of bone around the wisdom tooth, which also affects the alveolar bone of the neighboring molar.

04

Pushing the surrounding teeth, causing the adjacent molars to tilt

This can lead to misalignment of the teeth, resulting in malocclusion.

05

Applying pressure to the jaw bone, causing persistent pain

In severe cases, this can even lead to fractures of the jaw bone.
